Totally unexpected session as I had written off windsurfing with this high
pressure not budging. First sign was the wind whistling around the hangar
after lunch, I rang up the met men and found out it was 17 gusting 20 kts
NNE. Threw caution to the wind and decided to give Constantine a go, all I
had to go on was the info off A1 surf website and a tip off Billyboy on the
boards forum saying it should be good in a NE.
Pitched up to find the bucket and spade brigade on there way home and a few
afterwork surfers pulling up. Quick survey and it looked a goer with 2 ft
sets coming in and the wind scudding over the surface of the water. Went
for the 6.2 and big waveboard for a bit of power through the inevitable
rips. Turned out it wasn't as windy as it looked, one long slog out with a
short burst on the plane then a quick tack and head back. Caught a nice
little wave and got a bottom turn in, that set the tone for the rest of the
session. Wobble out, tack, pump onto a wave and try to stay on for two
bottom turns. It wasn't very elegant but good fun considering the lack of
wind. Definitely improved my off the plane tacks and light wind
waterstarts.
A good day considering it was totally out of the blue, and the first outing
in the summer suit this year.
